Designed with the non-regulated workforce in mind, the Care Certificate gives everyone the confidence that workers have the same introductory skills, knowledge and behaviours to provide compassionate, safe and high quality care and support. The Care Certificate was developed for use in England and is the minimum training, supervision and assessment that staff new to care (health and adult social care) should receive as part of induction and before they start to deliver care out of the line of sight of more experienced workers. Evidence shows that although feedback is among the major influences, the type of feedback and the way it is given can be differentially effective. A model of feedback is then proposed that identifies the particular properties and circumstances that make It effective, and some typically thorny issues are discussed, including the timing of feedback and the effects of positive and negative feedback. Finally ,this analysis is used to suggest ways in which feedback can be used to enhance its effectiveness in classrooms.
