The Care Certificate is an identified set of standards that health and social care workers adhere to in their daily working life. Designed with the non-regulated workforce in mind, the CareCertificate gives everyone the confidence that workers have the same introductory skills, knowledge and behaviours to provide compassionate, safe and high quality care and support. The Care Certificate was developed for use in England and is the minimum training, supervision and assessment that staff new to care(health and adult social care) should receive as part of induction and before they start to deliver care out ofthe line of sight of more experienced workers. It provides a foundation for healthcare support and social careworker roles, ensuring that the new worker can provide a compassionate and caring service.

Who should do the Care Certificate?

New Workers, New to Care

The Care Certificate is aimed at the following types of workers joining a health or adult social careorganisation without any past trainingor sector experience. However, employers are free to decide whether any other staff groups would benefit from undertaking some or all of the Care Certificate.

  • Healthcare
    • Healthcare Support Workers / Health CareAssistants / Assistant Practitioners/ any individual giving support to clinical roles in the NHS where there is any direct contact with patients.
  • Adult social care
    • Workers will be providing direct care to people accessing a variety ofsocial care settings which may include, residential, nursing homes, hospices, domiciliary care, supported living services, shared lives services and extra carehousing. Roles may include: Care Assistant / Care Worker / HomecareWorker / Care Support Workers

There are fifteen standards that must be completed, involving knowledge learning, practical skills and workplace assessments. Completion of all standards is required to attain the Care Certificate The Care Certificate is based on 15 standards, all of which individuals need to complete in full before they can be awarded their certificate:

Qualification Purpose

The Level 5 Certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language is a standalone specialist qualification suitable for learners wishing to develop the skills and knowledge to specialise in the teaching of English to speakers of other languages. The purpose of this qualification is to develop knowledge and skills relevant to a particular specialisation within an occupation or set of occupations.

The target audience for the qualification is learners with little or no experience of teaching English. The aim is to develop the introductory knowledge and skills required to begin to teach English as a foreign language. The qualification develops learners’ knowledge of the English language and how to teach it; how to assess the needs of learners; preparing lesson plans and materials; identify resources and adapt to the needs of younger learners

This qualification is made up of eleven mandatory units which cover the teaching and learning of English as a foreign language.

Entry Requirements

The qualification is suitable for learners of 16 years of age and above. All trainee teachers should undertake an initial assessment of skills in English, mathematics and ICT. They should record their development needs and, where applicable, agree an action plan to address them. Where trainee teachers have already undertaken an initial assessment of their English, mathematics and ICT skills, their record of development needs and any previous action taken to address them should be reviewed and updated as required.

Guided Learning Hours

These hours are made up of all real-time contact time, guidance or supervision of a learner by a lecturer, supervisor, tutor, trainer or other appropriate provider of education or training.
