Course Overview

Our Diploma in Education & Teaching course will provide you with a strong background in understanding the skills you need to progress in the workplace and earn a recognised qualification. This Diploma in Education & Teaching qualification is suitable for individuals who are practising within the education sector, who have prior knowledge and understanding of the role and who wish to merge that experience with an accredited qualification. The Diploma in Education & Teaching course units combine proven-by-practice methods, including theories and research into practical teaching and learning, helping you to develop the functional skills and knowledge required in a teaching profession.

This training programme is designed to prepare trainee teachers and trainers to teach in a wide range of contexts and requires observation and assessment of practice. This training programme is intended for trainee teachers and trainers who are in the early stages of their professional careers and want to be professionally qualified and skilled enough to teach in a broad range of settings.

Qualification Purpose

The purpose of the qualification is to develop learners’ knowledge and understanding of education and other topics relevant to educational contexts. Areas covered include:

• Contemporary perspectives on education;
• Statutory guidance, legislation and policy for schools in the UK and internationally;
• Understanding education on a global scale
• Meeting diverse needs and protecting learners;
• Theories of learning and development and the role of inclusion
• Different research methodologies for educational research in the classroom context

Entry Requirements

There are no specific entry requirements however learners should have:

• A minimum core of literacy, language, numeracy and ICT.
• Reading and communication skills should be adequate to meet the requirements of the training.
• Hold a relevant qualification at a level above that of their learners; ideally at least Level 3 in their area of specialism.

The qualification is suitable for learners of 18 years of age and above.

What will I need to do to complete the course?

You will need to provide evidence that you have met all the learning outcomes required for this course. This will include:

• Assignments, research and evidence gathering: to evidence the knowledge based criteria. You will complete your unit assignments and be fully guided and supported by your tutor
• Practice Requirements: there is a requirement for a minimum of 20 hours of teaching practice for this qualification. Teaching hours and lesson observations will be carried out at your chosen place (e.g. private training provider, School, College etc.) with a verified assessor (e.g. a fully qualified teacher) observing you. You will need to arrange this but we can support you with how to do this.
• Observation Requirements: there is a requirement for a minimum of 4 observations of practice. Your 20 hours teaching practice (including the 4 observations) must be to groups of no less than 2 learners in a classroom, 3 or above would be ideal. You will be fully supported and guided by your tutor throughout the duration of the course and they will be easily contactable should you need their support.

This qualification opens doors within further education colleges and enables learners to apply for teaching positions with the confidence that they are already qualified & experienced teachers. You could look to work in any of the following:

Do I need to attend anywhere to complete this course?

Your 20 teaching hours and lesson observations will be held at your chosen place. However, the rest of the course you can complete at your convenience, in the comfort of your own home
