An Elementary School education is considered the first real contact any child has with the formal education system. It forms the basis of primary education for children between the ages of 4 which is vital to a child’s overall development since these are the formative years during which they are 11, and typically includes grades from Kindergarten through to Grade 5. Elementary school is extremely educational foundation for a child’s success. The elementary school curriculum adopted by schools for primary education includes subjects that are focused on basic academic learning and the development of fundamental social skills. During this time, students are taught the fundamentals of subjects like Math, Science, English, Social Studies, Physical Development, Fine Arts and Reading.
The fourth grade forms the fourth year of Elementary school and children enrolled are typically 9 to 10 years old. Subjects taught include Math, Science, Reading, Writing and Social Studies. The curriculum for Math includes more complex aspects as compared to the precious year. Students are taught how to calculate factors and multiples of numbers, calculate as well as convert units of measure, and to work with fractions. For Reading, students are taught a variety of new genres and are introduced to more sophisticate vocabulary. Writing now forms part of students’ daily activities and students are taught different types of punctuation to create sentences. In Science, students learn about the different scientific processes as well as topics search as motion of objects, electricity and circuits. In History, a great deal of time is devoted to teaching students about their state of residence and may even include field trips. Most schools also include health, music, art and physical education as part of the fourth grade curriculum.
Students will learn about the vocabulary lessons, learn about grammar, practice reading different literature and learn the writing skills.
The Grade 4 math curriculum focuses on multi-digit multiplication and division. The students will learn to add and subtract fractions, understand the geometric figures and the properties of two-dimensional objects and use them in solving the problems about symmetry.
The students will learn about the matter and its states, elements, atoms and properties of matter. Learn the differences between molecules, compounds and mixture. Study about the solar system, movement of earth.
The Grade 4 curriculum offers the students in depth look of history of United States and the country’s place in the global events. Students will learn about the Native Americans by the region and their customs. The students will learn about the American’s role in the First World War.
